Peshawar: In a major intelligence-based operation, security forces successfully neutralized nine terrorists belonging to the outlawed Khawarij group in Dera Ismail Khan, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). Among the slain militants was a key leader named Shereen.
The ISPR reported that the operation targeted militant hideouts and resulted in the recovery of weapons and ammunition from the terrorists. The security forces executed the operation with precision and determination.
This development follows a similar incident last evening, when security forces foiled an infiltration attempt by Khawarij militants from the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in North Waziristan. During an exchange of fire, eight terrorists were killed and four others sustained injuries.
ISPR emphasized that Pakistan has consistently urged the interim Afghan government to ensure effective border management. It is hoped that the Afghan authorities will fulfill their responsibilities in this regard.
A sanitization operation is currently underway in the region to eliminate any remaining militants. Pakistan’s security forces remain committed to defending national borders and eradicating the menace of terrorism.
In response to the successful operations, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the armed forces. In a statement from the Presidency, President Zardari commended the forces for thwarting the cross-border infiltration, describing their bravery as commendable.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a statement from the PM House, praised the security personnel for foiling the nefarious designs of the terrorists and reaffirmed support for the armed forces in ensuring national security.
It is worth mentioning that on the night between March 22 and 23, Khawarij militants had attempted to infiltrate through Ghulam Khan Kalle in North Waziristan, which was also effectively repelled by the security forces.
